Privacy Protection (private WHOIS) Print

  • 0

By law, domain ownership data appears in the public WHOIS. Privacy Protection hides your name, address, and email behind ours, so you don't get spam or phishing just because you registered.

Enabling it

  1. Client area → Domains → My Domains → click the domain.
  2. "ID Protection" or "Privacy Protection" section → Enable.
  3. Free on many TLDs. Others charge a small annual fee (we tell you when you enable it).

What changes in WHOIS

Your personal data is replaced by an alias that's still legally valid. If someone needs to contact the owner, email is forwarded to you, filtered.

What stays the same

  • You're still the legal owner.
  • Full control: transfer, renew, DNS changes.
  • Courts and authorities can get the real data with a legal request.

When NOT to use it

Some TLDs (notably regionals like .es) don't allow private WHOIS. Others discourage it for businesses wanting transparency (eCommerce, press).
