Connecting to your VPS over SSH Print

Your VPS is a server just for you, and the usual way to manage it is over SSH (a secure command-line connection). Here's how to get in.

What you'll need:

  • Your VPS IP address.
  • The username (usually root) and the initial password.

You'll find the IP and login details in your client area under Services → your VPS. We also email them to you when the service is activated.

From Linux or macOS (open the Terminal):

  1. Type ssh root@YOUR_IP and press Enter.
  2. The first time it'll ask you to confirm the server fingerprint: type yes.
  3. Enter the password (it won't show as you type) and you're in.

From Windows: you can use the same command in PowerShell, or a graphical client like PuTTY pointing at the IP on port 22.

Security tips: change the root password as soon as you log in (passwd), and when you can, set up SSH key authentication and disable password login. It's the single biggest security upgrade you can make on a VPS.

If you can't connect, double-check you've copied the IP correctly and that your network isn't blocking port 22. Still stuck? Open a ticket and we'll give you a hand.
