Pointing a domain you registered elsewhere to your GoServix hosting Print

Got your domain registered with another company but your hosting with us? You don't need to transfer the domain — you just point it at your hosting. There are two ways to do it.

Option A — Change the nameservers (simplest):

  1. Find your hosting's nameservers in your welcome email (or your client area) — something like ns1.your-server-domain and ns2....
  2. Log in to wherever your domain is registered and replace its nameservers with ours.
  3. Save. From then on your hosting manages all of the domain's DNS.

Option B — Keep your current DNS and point only the website:

  1. In your client area or cPanel, find your hosting's IP address.
  2. In your domain's DNS, create/edit the A record for @ and for www, pointing them at that IP.

Option A is the one we recommend if nothing else is tied to the domain; Option B is handy if your email or another service stays with another provider and you'd rather not touch it.

DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to show up everywhere. If your site still won't load from the domain after that, open a ticket and we'll go through it with you.
