Protecting your domain whois data Print

  • 0

When you register a domain, your contact details (name, address, email, phone) end up in a public database called whois. Anyone can look them up in seconds from tools like whois.com. This is an ICANN requirement, not something we decide.

The result is spam, cold calls and, in the worst case, impersonation attempts or targeted attacks.

The solution: WHOIS Privacy

When you enable privacy, your real details are replaced with those of a proxy service. The domain is still 100% yours, but the public whois shows the proxy instead of your name and address.

  1. Sign in to www.goservix.com.
  2. Go to Domains > My Domains and click the domain you want to protect.
  3. In the left panel, look for ID Protection (or WHOIS Privacy) and click Enable.

Limitations: not all TLDs support privacy. .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz and many others do. .es domains, by the Spanish registry rules, do not allow hiding the holder data, although you can request the whois opt-out directly to Red.es.

If you do not see the option for your domain, the TLD probably does not support it. Drop us a ticket and we will confirm.
